About

Monisha D'costa

Founder and designer of The Golden Shadow, Monisha D’Costa works at the intersection of art and design. Her practice focuses on handcrafted sculptural forms that use material and light to create refined, contemplative environments.

Design is an exploration of presence and absence—where form is shaped not only by what exists, but by what is intentionally left open. Each piece is conceived as a spatial experience, blending artistry with thoughtful craftsmanship. Through a deep respect for material and form, my work seeks to create objects that feel both grounded and ethereal.

MATERIAL, INTUITION & CRAFT

My practice begins with an intuitive dialogue with materials. Natural elements such as wood, fiber, and handmade surfaces offer warmth, texture, and character. These materials are shaped, layered, and refined to reveal their inherent beauty while allowing space for experimentation. Every creation is made by hand, guided by patience, precision, and a sensitivity to detail—celebrating the slow, meaningful process of making.

WHERE LIGHT FINDS ITS FORM

Light is not an accessory to my designs—it is an active participant. As illumination passes through surfaces and contours, it reveals shifting patterns, subtle movement, and depth. Each piece transforms with time and perspective, offering a quiet visual rhythm that evolves throughout the day and comes alive in softer hours.

AN INVITATION TO ENGAGE

The Golden Shadow is about connection—between object and space, light and form, creator and viewer. If my work resonates with you, I welcome the conversation. Whether you are interested in a bespoke creation, a curated piece, or simply wish to explore this design language further, I would be delighted to connect.
